California State University/University of California College Entrance (A-G) Requirements

The Califonia State University/University of California  require students to complete 15 units of college preparatory courses with a grade of "C" or better (1 unit is equal to 1 year).

University of California (UC): the minimum GPA for California applicants is 3.0.
California State University (CSU): the minimum GPA for California applicants is 2.0. 

   A. History/Social Science   

2 years - One year of U.S. History or one-half year of U.S. History and one-half year of Civics or American Government and one year of World History, Cultures, and Geography.

     B. English     

4 years - College preparatory English that includes frequent and regular writing, and reading of classic and modern literature. Not more than two semesters of ninth grade English can be used to meet this requirement.

     C. Math 3 years - Four years recommended. Elementary and advanced Algebra and two and three-dimensional Geometry. Approved integrated math courses may be used to fulfill part or all of this requirement.
     D. Laboratory Science 2 years - Three years recommended. At least two of the following: Biology (which includes Anatomy, Physiology, Marine Biology, Aquatic Biology, etc.), Chemistry, or Physics. Laboratory courses in earth/space may be acceptable.

     E. Language- 
             Other than English
 

2 years - Three years recommended. Two years of the same language. Language courses taken in the seventh and eighth grade may be used to fulfill part of this requirement if your high school accepts them as equivalent to its own courses.
     F. Visual  and
             Performing Arts 
1 year - A year-long approved course from a single Visual/ Performing Arts area (dance, drama/theater, music or visual arts.)
     G. College Preparatory  
             Electives
1 year - from the following areas: Visual and Performing Arts, History, Social Science, English, Advanced Mathematics, Laboratory Science, and Language other than English (a third year in the language used for the 'e' requirement or two years of another language).

California State University: SAT I (Reasoning) or ACT

Universiy of California: SAT I (Reasoning) or ACT 
SAT II (Subject Test in one of the following areas: Mathematics (level 2), English Literature, Foreign Language, Science, or Social Science)

Note:
The SAT Subject Tests (two tests in specific subject areas of the student’s choice) are no longer required by UC’s but some private colleges and some majors at public colleges may still require.
