College Connection Academy
The College Connection Academy is one of two schools in the nation to cover the grades 7-12/13. The Academy will differ from traditional secondary schools and high schools in the country because it will prepare students over a longer period of time for success in both university/college and careers. Students will not only be taught high level academic concepts but be required to explain and apply these to real world problems. In addition to the college prep academic curriculum, students will be required and supported to:
Be involved in service learning throughout their school experience, grades 7-12/13
Have summer school opportunities that will either provide intervention or opportunities to explore different career paths
Participate in the CAHSEE Plus exam in mathematics at the end of their 8th grade year (plus earn an additional semester of free college tuition)
Take college level classes at Evergreen Valley College beginning their 11th grade year of High School
Participate in a professional work-base learning experience (Apprenticeship and/or Internships) in the 11th and 12 grade years. This will occur during the summer for pay and/or college credit
Graduate with a high school diploma and a one year of credit toward an Associate Degree in college (one year of college credit)
The College Connection Academy has these features:
A small learning community comprised of a group of 7th and 8th grade students who will study in a period day setting having classes of Math, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and PE.
A pre-high school college preparatory curriculum will be offered and required for the students to master. Incoming 7th grade students will be placed in Math, Life Science, Medieval History, and 7th grade English Language Arts. Eighth grade students will be placed in core classes of Geometry or Algebra, Physical Science, US History, and 8th grade English Language Arts. Students needing additional instruction will be expected to stay afterschool to complete assignments or have intervention classes.
